Located on the edge of a historic neighborhood and connected to an active commercial corridor, the design of this 42-unit building responds to both environments. The building exterior takes its cues from the historic neighborhoods, yet the one- and two-bedroom loft apartment layouts and building systems are strictly contemporary.
The project is placed on the lot lines to be consistent with the character of the neighborhood, overcoming the design challenge of a tight and steeply sloping site. We created a two-level parking deck with upper level parking accessed from the rear alley.
The building employs a geothermal heating and cooling system. It was an innovative strategy for a low-income tax credit project, but designed to reduce energy costs for the income-restricted tenants.
